York Regional Police Pipes and Drums
The York Regional Police Pipes and Drums was formed in 1989, and is made up of 30 members of sworn officers, auxiliary police officers, and civilian members. They are under the command of Chief of Police Armand Labarge, and our Executive Officer Deputy Chief Eric Jolliffe.
The York Regional Police Pipes and Drums proudly wear the ‘Sir John A. MacDonald’ tartan in memory of our first Prime Minister of Canada. Day to day operations is conducted by Pipe Major Peter Fleming (Detective), and Drum Major Robert G. Whitman, (Retired Staff Sergeant) of the York Regional Police. The drum section is currently under the command of Corporal Allison Smith.
The York Regional Police Pipes and Drums were originally formed to parade at community events, and act as a public relations organizational arm of the police service. Their professionalism has advanced to where they are now called upon to perform concerts, and provide the sound of the ‘Pipes’ at ceremonials, and police funerals. |
